IEEE 1815 (DNP3) Initiative

Distributed Energy Resources (DER) are inherently multi-protocol. Independent Power Producers (IPP’s) and utilities may choose differing communication options depending upon locus of control or application type. Despite these differences, the market is striving to achieve the benefits that come from standardization.

SunSpec believes that great efficiency can be gained from the standardization of information models. The benefit of standard information models is that they carry essential information from network type to network type with minimal loss of meaning.
